Start with a photo that feels like them

Choose one recent photo with a single visible face, even light and an unobstructed view. A plain background helps you judge the source clearly. A relaxed expression is enough; you do not need a professional portrait.

Avoid sunglasses, face-covering costumes, heavy filters and group photos. If a favorite picture is blurry, choose a simpler image rather than trying to rescue it with stronger filters. StoryMine accepts JPG, PNG and WebP up to 10 MB. Export HEIC as JPG before uploading.

Give the picture a story to belong to

A photo identifies the little hero; a theme gives that hero something to do. “A garden adventure where Maya learns to ask for help” is easier to turn into a coherent story than a list of unrelated places and creatures. Choose one setting, one small problem and a reassuring ending.

For a first book, start with the brave-first-step idea and personalize the theme. Keep age and name easy to check. You can change the preset before creating the preview.

Inspect the preview together

Look at the opening pages before deciding on the full book. Check the name, readability, the overall illustrated character and whether the scene fits the text. An illustration is an artistic interpretation, so judge the whole story rather than treating it as a photographic copy.

The licensed examples show a reading format and story ideas. They are editorial samples, not customer photographs or a promise that every new image will look exactly like a sample.

Keep the book close

Sign in before adding a personal photo so your work is connected to your account. If a saved book is interrupted, open My books and continue it instead of starting another book. The free preview includes three illustrations; the full digital book brings the remaining pages, PDF and storyteller narration.

Common questions

Can I upload an iPhone photo?

Yes, if you export it as JPG, PNG or WebP and it is within 10 MB. HEIC files need conversion before upload.

Should I put several children in one photo?

Start with one clear face. For a sibling theme, describe the relationship in the story idea rather than using a crowded source photo.
